Will make it 👏🏻👍
Love seeing this as I have seen this Painting in real life! Love Degas! The original is a Pastel drawing and so would love to have seen you do it in pastel? Cheers
Hi, thanks for watching. I haven't seen the real thing, but I have seen some of Degas' other works in the national gallery, and I love them. Sorry, I never use pastels as I am asthmatic and I can't cope with the dust.
Hi ! I don t know which size to use , the XL or the small ones. Because i feel that the result in the stroke style is different. Or do they give the same result ?
Hi, thanks for watching. I would choose the xl if you work on a large scale with big sheets of paper. For most average size work, you can use the standard size. You can make similar marks with both, especially by lying the block down and using the side to drag along the paper. With the standard, you can get a larger range of colours in one tin. Whichever you choose, I hope you have fun with them! 😃
@@CallyLawson thank you very much !I feel less frustrated, that's a very clear answer. 🙂
Thank you for this. But it sure does take trial and error with how much pressure and so on. I think also makes a difference what kind of charcoal you use.
Yes, absolutely. It is good fun, but sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. The amount of paint, drying time, pressure, etc. are very difficult to replicate. I use scraps of card that I have spare, I don't like to pay for good paper for these if they are going to end up in the bin! Thanks for watching 😊
Thank you for this video.
You're welcome, thanks for watching 😊
thanks so much! i found that with the three hole technique i did not even need to further enlarge the holes. its perfect.
That's great, I'm glad you found it useful. Thanks for watching 😊
I love the vibrancy of the dye-based watercolors but I have found that not being able to use it like a traditional pigmented based watercolor isn't worth the brilliance. I like the 'lift-ability' and spread-ability of traditional watercolors and that's just not fully possible with dye-based products. It's both a strength and a weakness, depending on how you work with watercolors.
Yes, I agree. I love my Artists quality watercolour paints, my favourite are Sennelier. However these are great fun and very portable. For the price they are good for sketching. I particularly recommend them for Children who will like the bright colours. Thanks for watching 😊
Did you have any issues formatting your e-book version? How did you keep the stanzas separated in your poems for reflowable text? Did you include images in your poetry e-book? If so, how did you format those for the EPUB?
Hi, thanks for watching. I didn’t have any problems with the formatting, I used Canva for that. I added my images on Canva, then flattened them when saving.
@@CallyLawsonThanks for replying! Does that mean the pages were all image files? Were they fixed format for the ebook? I’m trying to do reflowable text. Thanks again,
Hi Cally, thankyou for that bit (but really important helpful) bit of advice. I will definitely be buying these, but I'll probably wait until Prime Week which is about 3 weeks away. I hope that Derwent expand their XL range of colours. Inktense are one of the most innovative art products that Derwent have ever released and I really enjoy using them. Thanks again Cally for your helpful hint, take care .😊
Thanks for watching, I'm glad you found it useful. It would be good if they brought out more colours in time, I agree. I hope you get a good deal on Prime Week. Have fun with your Inktense 😃
Nice channel, keep it up !
Thank you very much 😊
I have just published my first poetry book and was looking for other poets on UA-cam to follow and learn from when I stumbled across this video. Thank you so much for taking the time to record it! I'm heading over to Kindle Unlimited to read and leave a review with my morning coffee! 🙂
Hi, that's great, thanks. Good luck with your book! 😃
Thank you for grass root info. Is there a cost involved in KDP? Please let me know
Hi, thanks for watching. No, KDP is free to set up. They obviously get money from the book sale, and you get paid your royalty once a month.

Just got a pack of Brusho and the instructions have improved, a bit. It certainly implies that it doesn't interfere with previous layers.
Hi, thanks for watching. Thank you, that's helpful for others reading this who may just have the previous instructions. It seems a long time since I did this video. I haven't really used the thickener much since then.
Cally, you make it seem so easy! I love those cypress trees, it’s like they vibrate against the sky. His style can be recognized from the Moon 😊. Thank you for the inspiration! ❤
Thank you 😊 and thanks for watching. You are right about his style! I really enjoyed doing this, as you could probably tell, I am a big admirer of Van Gogh. Have a lovely weekend 😃
Looks amazing!❤ I need to gather up and finally do something in colour and this one looks perfect for it! Thank you!

So happy I selected this particular lamb and this particular artist to follow! Usually my first attempts are rather rough and ugly, but because you took the time to give us a full presentation and many details, my first effort at this lamb is successful and actually something I will give to a friend for Easter. I am ever so thankful, and I will be looking forward to other lessons you offer.
Hi, thank you very much for your lovely feedback, and thank you for watching 😊 I am glad that you found it useful. I hope you have a nice and peaceful Easter and that your friend likes their gift 😀
Nice! What type of paper did you use?
Hi, thank you. The paper is an A4 mixed media pad from Daler Rowney. Thanks for watching 😊
Beautiful
Thank you 😊
I enjoyed listening to you talk and watching you draw and paint that lovely bouquet of spring flowers. I could do a ‘copy and paste’ of most of what @Graham_Thompson posted here before me. I find myself in that exact same situation, only I am looking at my little gallery display on the hallway and I ask myself: why, after all these years, I cannot do better than that? I take art classes, I belong in art groups, I try to better my art by painting in my studio, but it seems to me that i cannot break into the next level. I still remain a beginner, after about fifteen years of practicing art. I find it very frustrating and most discouraging, to the point that I get the need to take long breaks away from my art. Thank you very much for the advice and words of encouragement. Good luck with your show!
Thank you, and thanks for watching. Do you always stick to the same topics and media with your artwork? It is sometimes good to try something different. If you work in oil, swap to watercolour or visa versa. I wonder about your comment saying you are still a "beginner" after 15 years. You aren't as you have 15 years of accumulated knowledge. Maybe it's a case of too much knowledge, perhaps you need to let go and break some rules 🤔 I also wonder about your term "break into the next level", this suggests to me that you are comparing your art to others. We all have different styles and strengths, lean to what it is that you do like about your work. As you have continued with your art for 15 years, you must enjoy it and have a desire to always paint and draw. Little breaks now and again are good, you come back with "fresh eyes". I hope that helps and that you continue to enjoy painting and drawing 😊
@@CallyLawson Oh, dear Cally, I didn’t expect you to take so much of your precious time to answer me. You read me like an open book and your words fall like a spring rain on a thirsty garden bed. I will carefully take every aspect of your advice presented and will try to apply each of them into my art practice. Oh, how I needed this! Forever grateful for your support, I thank you from my heart for presenting me with a different perspective, for your encouragement and for sharing from your experience with all of us. Sending you love from California ❤️
@@pastelsgirl You're most welcome, I am happy to be of use. All the best from a rainy Cumbria! 🙂
Wise words but I still find it hard to accept what I produce. I have been playing about with drawing and painting for years but I still see myself as a complete beginner. I have produced a few drawings and one watercolour that I really like. What I do when this happens is to frame them and I have a mini gallery in the hallway. Sometimes though, I look at them and wonder why I cannot achieve that level every time, very frustrating 😊. Love this bouquet you produced. I would have had to stop at the pen work as I would have ruined it putting colour on, colour is my worst enemy 😂
Hi Graham, thanks for watching. I do understand your frustration, I also wonder how I did some of my work that I like the best and struggle to recreate. Sometimes, we just have good days where it all falls into place. With drawing, the best way to improve is to draw from life as often as possible, small observations of everyday objects in your sketchbook. With the colour, perhaps opt for a limited palette of no more than 3 or 4 colours at a time. This helps to keep a fresh look and prevents "muddy" colours. Don't forget, the paintings that you aren't happy with others may really like, it's all subjective! Keep enjoying your drawing and painting 😀
Lovely! I was looking for a watercolour bridge. I am participating in 100 days of wonder, different media and a bridge was a prompt. Thank you.
Wow, 100 days is a real commitment, I hope you enjoy it 😀 well done!! Thanks very much for watching, I'm glad you found it useful 🙂
So happy that I found your channel! I just received my first order of water soluble oils & need help, so thank you!
Thanks for watching, I'm glad you found it useful 😀 have lots of fun with your new paints!
another great tutorial. Thank you!
Thanks for watching 😊
I loved creating this little mouse along with you. I'm excited to check out your other videos.
Thanks for watching, I'm glad you enjoyed it 😊 Let me know if there is anything in particular you would like me to paint in my upcoming videos. Have a lovely weekend 🙂
Where can you buy it
Thanks for watching. You can buy masking tape from all art stores and DIY stores, you can also buy it on Amazon.
Beautiful, thanks for the inspiration.
Thanks for watching, I'm glad you liked it 😊
If I could get the initial pen work as good as that I would stop there. I always ruin drawings when I paint them. Very nicely done🙏
Thanks for watching and for your lovely feedback. Perhaps try using fewer colours and more water, keep the painting really simple to show off your pen lines. Enjoy your drawing and painting 🙂🎨
I recently acquired a set of these paints. Wanted to ask how much/if water you use with them?
Hi, thanks for watching. I don’t use any water with them. I only use water to clean my brushes. If you add water, you will reduce the intensity of the colours. Enjoy trying out your new paints 🎨
Loving your writing and art, just bought one of your poetry books🙏
Thank you so much for purchasing my book and for your feedback on my work, it is much appreciated. Have a good weekend 🙂
I know this is an older video now but I have only just found your channel. I am very much a hobby sketcher and not very good at it but at 73, it gives me something to do and enjoy the process even if the results are not great. At my age all this AI stuff mainly passes me by but I do have an app on my iPad that generates AI pictures depending on the description you type in. Although the pictures generated have a ‘sameness’ about them, I do use them as a source for ideas. So I may type in “English country lane with farmhouse” and let it generate a few pictures which I can then use to practice sketching them. In an ideal world, I would go out and take photos myself but that is no longer an option due to mobility issues so a generated AI image that I usually have to simplify for sketching gives me an almost limitless amount of source images. I have no idea if there are copyright issues on using a these images as source but as I never sell my sketches, most of which end up in the bin😅, I don’t see any problem using them for practice. Loving your channel and looking forward to binge watching 8 years of your videos, it may take me a while 😮
Hi Graham, I think that's a great way to use the AI and as far as I know there should be no copyright issue working that way. There is a fantastic website called Pixabay which has lots of copyright free real images, you may like to take a look at that. Thank you so much for your lovely feedback, I am glad that you are finding my videos useful. You have exactly the right approach, sketching for the enjoyment of it. I do hope you continue to enjoy practicing you sketching. Thank you 😊
@@CallyLawson thank you. Yes, Pixabay is good, I used to use Unsplash but it rarely came up with what I wanted. Pixabay seems much better. As an aside, I put into the AI generator called Gencraft the phrases ‘18 century man’ and ‘18 century woman’ and the results are astonishing. Maybe a bit Hollywood but if ever I learn to draw people, they will be stunning resources.
Lovely idea I’m going to make cards like this right now!! Thank you, you are so talented! ❤
Thank you so much for your lovely feedback, it's really appreciated 😊 Have fun creating your cards 😀
